    DOUCHEBAG ALERT!
In a 2009 interview, Plain Dealer music critic John Soeder asked Don Henley this about the lyrics:
On "Hotel California," you sing: "So I called up the captain / 'Please bring me my wine' / He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1969.'" I realize I'm probably not the first to bring this to your attention, but wine isn't a spirit. Wine is fermented; spirits are distilled. Do you regret that lyric?
    Henley responded,
"Thanks for the tutorial and, no, you're not the first to bring this to my attention—and you're not the first to completely misinterpret the lyric and miss the metaphor. Believe me, I've consumed enough alcoholic beverages in my time to know how they are made and what the proper nomenclature is. But that line in the song has little or nothing to do with alcoholic beverages. It's a sociopolitical statement. My only regret would be having to explain it in detail to you, which would defeat the purpose of using literary devices in songwriting and lower the discussion to some silly and irrelevant argument about chemical processes.

The State That I Am In
I'm missing random CDs throughout my collection. About 50-60 in total, as best as I can tell. I know I had them when I moved into my new place. Perhaps someone thought I wouldn't notice such a small amount amongst a few thousand, but I do. I'm hoping Andy just borrowed them to add to his iPod, as I told him he was free to anytime. I'd hate to have to move because a room mate, or a room mate's guest or friend, is stealing from me. Financially, my current living arrangement is good for me but I couldn't live somewhere I don't feel safe from such events. I'm really hoping Andy borrowed them or something innocent like that.

My job isn't very satisfying. Right now my biggest challenge is just finding the motivation to wake up and come in to spend all day doing nothing. It's rather soul sucking and mood killing. I serve no purpose in the summer. This will quickly fade into working 80 hours a week and not having much of a life when football season starts and it won't let up until April, aside from a few weeks in December. I've updated my resume and am keeping an eye on openings in the Detroit area. The company I work for also has a position open about 40 minutes north of NYC in upper management training. I really can't see myself doing this more than another year. My 401k is matched in March, and I get a bonus in June. By next June, I will have accumulated 4 weeks vacation time (the max I can have), which is paid out when you leave if not used. I'd like to leave after this football season, but I will leave before July 2010. This place is killing me.

I don't have friends in Lansing. It's not that I lack friends, I have many great ones. They are all in Detroit, though, and in a year and a half of living here, Liz is the only person who has come to see me.

It really is becoming a challenge just to wake up everyday. There is nothing to motivate me here. I'm not thriving in this setting. I'm barely living. Most days I get to work sort of on time and then spend 8 hours trying to look sort of busy. I usually do maybe an hour of work on any given day. Then I pick up some crappy drive-thru dinner on the way home and play video games or watch streaming shows until 3 or 4 am. Rinse and repeat. When I have more than one day off in a row I drive to Detroit, stay with Liz in Ferndale, and spend most of my time in Hamtramck.

In better news, I'm using this years bonus check to put out a 7" titled "Wolfbait Lives". I'm trying to kick-start the band into a semi-active status, as it's one of the few things in life that give me joy and and purpose. I like making music. I like playing music. I need something to keep me focused and provide some forward momentum. Otherwise I end up huddled in a miserable ball in the corner of the room, avoiding daylight, not accepting phone calls, and playing WoW 12 hours a day.

    Some Days
So about an hour after popping some Adderall in front of me, the sophomore college girl working one of my stands at the breslin bent over to get a hoodie from the very back of the stand's storage compartment and visually informed me that she doesn't think work requires undies.

    No.
"Almost 40 years after the final Three Stooges movie, "Kook's Tour," was released, it appears the Farrelly brothers are finally on their way to bringing the slapstick trio back to the big screen.

As Variety reported earlier this week, Sean Penn has signed on to play Larry, negotiations are under way with Jim Carrey for the role of Curly, and Benicio del Toro is the top choice to become Moe."

I'm not impressed. In fact, I'm upset. Some shit is holy and you don't touch it.

    Sometimes life isn't bad.

I thought I just tore the ass out of my pants at work.

But it was just my boxer shorts. They have fish and them and my mom bought them for me when I was in the mental hospital a few summers back. They were too small and I didn't like them anyways, so overall, no loss.

Plus no one at work can see my ass or balls, which is good. Boxers < Pants

    Sometimes life isn't bad.

    Bres
While running sales at a Basketball Game today, a young colored fellow in the Breslin asked me if my mustache was real.

The Breslin Event coordinator asked me if I wanted any free tickets for the Death Cab For Cutie show there in April. I did an internal 'lol' and declined.

I very frequently find myself singing Basketball Jones when I run things there.

Basketball Jones as sung by Tyrone Shoelaces (Cheech)
    w/
    George Harrison on Guitar
    Billy Preston on Organ
Ronnie Spector and Michelle Phillips on backing vocals, as well as The Blossoms
    Klaus Voorman on Bass
and pretty much a who's who of beatles/stones session musicians for everything else
No clue how Cheech & Chong lined this up...

I like the when someone really picks the wrong guy to fuck with and has no clue that some serious hellfire is about to be rained down on them. Except you know it, so you just get to kick back and relax, smugly, waiting for everyone who deserves it be surprised by their doom. I think the book Count of Monte Crisco might have started the genre. Rambo: First Blood crystalized it. The new movie, Taken, is a fine example.

Trying to watch a downloaded copy of Quarantine right now. I am so over movies shot in the style of being filmed from an actual camera on a character in the movie.

    Didn't like Blair Witch.
    Didn't love Cloverfield.
This is not my thing. I don't dig it.
I wonder how much thought and extra work is put into making a movie look like it's filmed without and thought or extra work.

    Blargh.

On a side note, I am completely prepped for worst case scenarios.
    Zombies
    Draculas
    Flesh Eating Viral Outbreaks
    Demons
    Ghosts

If I ever encounter such things, there will be no period of adjustment, no hours spent is disbelief of what I just so. I am ready. The instant I see a zombie or a demon, I will accept it as a zombie or a demon, and promptly "GTFO". Most deaths in any horror movie could be avoided if people would quickly run the fuck away as soon as they see the first thing that is just not god damn right.

I bought a television this week. I haven't had one in quite some time (since I left Hamtramck in 2007). It's one of those HD flat screen jobbers.

When I set it up at home I realized I don't have cable or even a dvd player to hook it up to. So it just sat there for a day, capable of High Definition static at best. I bought a $20 antenna for it today. Rabbit ears got weird since I last had them. They look more like a snack tray now.

I went out to get a blu-ray player since it seems to be where things are headed. As it turns out they cost just as much as a Playstation 3, which also plays blu-ray discs. I decided to pick up the PS3 since it was the same cost. I don't know how much I'll actually use it as a gaming system, but it's nice to have the option. I pick it up from ABC warehouse tomorrow.

It's odd making purchases larger than $20. Aside from the used car I bought out of necessity, it's been a few years since I've purchased anything more serious than undies or a used cd. Still digging myself out of the debt that occurs when you lose two jobs in a row, take a quick homeless stint, and your evil devil bitch ex sticks you with credit card debt and phone bills on top of the other poo poo doo doo. I'm doing decent with it though. I make a living wage. I do wish I wasn't living in Lansing. The only decent thing in the whole place is the Quality Dairy chain of convenience stores. There might be another dude moving into the house here. Andy wants to rent out the other room. It'll be a real dude palace. I don't really mind though. I'm barely here anyways. Anytime I have more than a day off, I'm in Ferndale or Hamtramck. Liz is lightly thinking about moving back to Hamtramck. That would be tits. I applied for a job as a junior accountant for the city in the fall. I never heard anything back, but I keep checking the city website for more job openings. I've also been eyeing positions in Wayne and Oakland Counties with other stores that the company I work for owns.

My 401K is taking a serious rape in the face. I keep telling myself that the lower the market gets, the more shares I'm buying each month, and the more I'll make when it rebounds. I'm not counting on anything soon, but I'd like to think it will pick up before I retire in 40 years or so. I pay almost as much to FICA as I do in federal taxes. It seems so silly to spend that much on something I have no faith to be functional by the time I'm wrinkly. Hoping to start buffing up my Roth IRA while the market is down, but a boy has to have enough rubels to get corned beef and rye sometimes.

Wolfbait is playing the last night of the blowout with Chapstik and Bluesong. That's pretty bad ass. It should be a good time. Trying to get the jerks to practice enough to learn a new song or two before it. I want to start being a real musician again.

It's so strange hearing random tv noise in the background at night. It's been a long time. I have 7 channels, but only 5 come in well enough to not be annoying. It's like being a kid again, except I'm fat and know what boobs look like. I keep expecting to see Mel Farr Superstar or a Dietrich Furs commercial. I can barely recall a time when tv stations signed off at night and didn't broadcast until the next morning. I do recall it though.

I spent my afternoon de-icing the sideline tent at the spartan stadium, which included dodging 80lb chunks of ice as they fell.

And I forgot to go to sleep last night.

7am seems about as good a time to go to bed as any.
Cleaned my room up. Put my laundry away. Rolled $43.50 in change. Listened to the pogues, rilo kiley, the velvet underground, and the queers while doing so. Worked a small bit on a song about heroes doing glorious battle. I don't work until Sunday. There's a women's basketball game I have to oversee. I have next Fri-Sat off to go to some sort of party with Liz, so I'll be around the metro-detroit area then.

I believe Wolfbait is playing the hamtramck blowout as well as a future show at smalls. I'll let you know. I don't have much to say anymore. Living in Lansing is dumb. I'd like to move back to Hamtramck by this fall, employment permitting. If I have to trudge through another spartan football season, I'm gonna hang myself with 30' of foam fingers.
